They Don't Make Uniforms Like They Used To

Soldier of the Departmental Guard under Napoleon

Monsieur Vitry and His Plumed Hat

Monsieur Vitry served in the Departmental Guard during the Napoleonic wars. The Departmental Guards were equivalent of American national guard units and not a front line unit. However this has not dampened Vitry's obvious pride and swagger. He sports an impressive moustache as well as a fabulous hat that could double as a dust mop. I am not sure if there was a Madame Vitry but I wonder if she was able to resist the temptation to do a little dusting with that plume.
